How do you unwind?

As individuals living in a time like today, many of us experience stress. It has become so common that many of us have adapted to the feeling of being stressed, and do not know when to relax.

Did you know that all types of stress affect the body?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “some people experience mainly digestive symptoms, while others may have headaches, sleeplessness, sadness, anger or irritability”

Have you experienced those symptoms lately? You may be stressed.

Here are some tips on reducing stress, and long term negative effects

  1. Identify the issue
    • Find out what is causing you to be stressed. It is different for everyone, so please don’t feel concerned if something affects you, and not someone else you may know.
  2. Try Exercising
    • You may be wondering how this helps, but activities such as yoga, and walking have been found to work wonders on stress relief.
  3. Read a book
    • One of my favorite ways to unwind is to read a book. It allows me to escape my own world for a bit, and enjoy a great story.
  4. Aromatherapy
    • According to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, Aromatherapy can be defined as:
      • “Aromatherapy, also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process”
    • Basically, it uses scents to improve your healing! These essential oils can be found in many different products, including bath essentials.
  5. Talk to your physician
    • While we may think we know our bodies to the T, sometimes we are wrong. If symptoms persist, please contact your primary care physician. It may be a more serious issue.

So tell me, how do you unwind?
